Swiggy, the online ordering and delivery service, has recently announced the expansion of its services to the cities of Indore and Vizag. With the addition of these two, Swiggy is now available in a total of 18 cities across India.
The company’s network now includes Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Noida, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Kochi, Lucknow, Nagpur, Indore, and Vizag. A total of 450 restaurants are listed on Swiggy’s platform for the recently added cities.
The development comes just a couple of months after the startup raised $210 million in Series G funding, led by its existing shareholder Naspers in addition to a new major investor, DST Global and a few more. Swiggy is planning to double its tech headcount for personalization, operations, and the attached supply chain mechanism.
The biggest competitor of Swiggy is Zomato which is present in 21 India cities. Started as restaurant discovery platform, Zomato launched its food delivery services in May 2015 and currently delivers more than 13 million food orders in a month.
Earlier this month, Swiggy acquired Scootsy, an intracity delivery service provider in an all-cash deal of undisclosed amount. The company said that it’ll strengthen Scootsy’s curated restaurant network and help the brand expand to newer cities using Swiggy’s operational strength. Scootsy will continue to operate as an independent app post the acquisition.
