Special purpose messaging and social networking startup VoxWeb raises $1 million from a cluster of individuals. This was the third round of funding for the company. As the part of the deal, the promoters and employees of the company will continue to hold 80% ownership rights and 100% voting rights.
Founded in 2014 by Yash Mishra and based in Mumbai, India, VoxWeb is a mobile application through which you can share pictures with your friends and family. This application sounds like any other image sharing app but this is just not about sharing the picture alone, you can share voice overs with your image too which can make your picture sharing very interesting and easy.
On the investment, Yash Mishra, Founder, VoxWeb said:
With VoxWeb, we envision to create the first ever global consumer internet product from India and the app has already got users from 97 countries. With our unique voice-augmented photos technology, the company is focussed on designing and developing refreshingly new products adding a new dimension to social media consumption around the world. We believe our new round of funding will further hasten scaling-up up operations
Speaking pictures or Voxie allows the user to add an 11-second voice clip to pictures, and share it through various social platforms. In order to play the speaking picture, a user is required to download the Voxweb app. This app is available on both Android and iOS platforms for free.
It also has a social media portal called Life, where any user can access or upload speaking pictures. In June 2016, it introduced a feature called “P-mode” that allows the user to listen to a message privately.
User and celebs have also used speaking pictures to capture moments as voice augmented photographs are able to capture both atmospheres of the picture and emotions of the photographer. In January 2016, Priyanka Chopra used a voxie to thank her fans after winning the People’s Choice Awards. Subsequently, many other celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan and Sunny Leone followed the trend and used the platform to send speaking messages.
Ministry of AYUSH has also used the platform and became the first government department to join VoxWeb and used voxies to promote Yoga innovatively in the run-up to International Yoga Day on 21st of June.
The funding is expected to be deployed to strengthen backend technologies and to add innovative and engaging front-end features to cater to the new generation of social media users termed as “Facebook-Nevers”. The company will also invest in scaling marketing efforts to increase its user base. In addition, the company may also spend in brand-building by running grass-root campaigns in colleges.
