Kim Dotcom is planning to launch Bitcontent, a new platform for users to upload any kind of content and sell it on the internet with the help of bitcoins. Kim gave a glimpse of the platform in a video post on Twitter, in which he explained the whole process of selling an item on his platform.
For those who are unaware, Bitcoin is a virtual currency that can be used to move money around the world quickly and anonymously, without the need for a central authority, such as a bank or government. You can buy or sell anything on the internet with the help of bitcoins. Moreover, bitcoins has the same value all over the world so there it removes the problem of money conversion.
Bitcontent — the newly teased platform, is based on the Megaupload 2, a file uploading platform which is expected to be launched in the upcoming months. Last year, Dotcom presented Bitcache, a blockchain-powered instrument that lets users to attach a cryptocurrency transaction to files that they will upload on Megaupload 2.
While explaining the platform, Dotcom said,
You can create a payment for any content that you put on the internet…you can share that with your customers, with the interest community and, boom, you are basically in business and can sell your content.
The vision behind the platform, as per Kim, is to help businesses like news organizations and others to earn money from their entire website. The date of launching of the platform is not declared yet. And also, how is his idea unique than other existing bitcoin platforms is also not explained by him.
On Bitcontent, a user can upload any content in his local currency and the platform will change that amount into its corresponding value in bitcoins. Any user who wants to buy the content can pay in bitcoin. This platform also enables the user to monetize their uploaded content.
Emphasizing on the privacy of the user, he tweeted,
Your privacy & security matters. Bitcache will ultimately replace credit card payments on the Internet. That’s how big this is. Watch me.
Due to the anonymity of currency, the digital currency is being popular with drug dealers, money launderers, and organized crime groups, meaning governments and the financial establishment have been slow to embrace it since the first trade in 2009. The value of bitcoin has set a new record by hitting $1,145, which is a five-fold increase in a year.
Kim Dotcom expects that the price of digital currency Bitcoin will reach $2,000 in the next two years following the launch of Bitcache and Megaupload 2. In order to download files through the platform, users will have to acquire the virtual currency to activate downloads.
