Facebook seems to be on a spree to back Indian startups with its FbStart programme. The social media giant has already selected a bunch of startups for the programme and now, it has selected yet another startup for the same.
Gurugram-based startup Skillmate has been backed by Facebook under its FBStart programme. As a part of the programme, the company will get access to resources worth around $400,000.
The startup will also get a chance to get access to the exclusive community of Facebook’s developers and worldwide events. The programme provides free access to more than 25 services including open source tools like React Native, FB Login and Account Kit and App Analytics.
Founded in early August this year, Skillmate is a location based mobile application that connects people over skills and hobbies. It let’s you learn something new, teach your talents, and partner for fun things with people near you.
The startup was founded by four engineering graduates – Arjun Khera, Anil Khera, Gitanshu Soni and Saurabh Singh. The company is now planning to expand user base in other major cities, including Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, and Chennai in the next 12-15 months.
Notably, India is the largest market for FbStart outside the US. According to the product partnerships team at Facebook, over 75 percent of top-grossing apps in India get integrated with Facebook.
Skillmate is 8th startup from India to be selected for Facebook’s FbStart programme. Earlier in last two months, FIXU, XPrep, Videovibe and Partiko have been selected by Facebook for its FbStart programme.
