FlipClass, a Bangalore-based edtech startup, has today raised $1 million from education content provider S Chand and Company Pvt Ltd and a venture capital firm Blume Ventures.
The company was founded by IIT Kanpur graduate Vineet Dwivedi. FlipClass connects tutors and students through the platform. It helps the students with home, online and mobile tutoring solutions.
It recently launched its mobile application named flipTutor, which uses Whatsapp like interface to provide answers to students’ doubts in real time.
FlipClass is owned and operated by Gyankosh Solutions Pvt Ltd, which had raised Rs 1.5 crore ($223.6k) from LetsVenture, an online fund-raising platform, in April 2014.
The seed funding round was led by Hareesh Ramanna, founder of Singapore-based BlueCap Mobile Holdings, with participation from five other undisclosed investors.
Vineet Dwivedi, founder of the company, said,
“FlipClass has an active database of 4,000 students and 10,000 tutors and has delivered over 2,00,000 hours of home and online tuition. We are very excited to have S Chand invest in our platform. We will also look to integrate their content with our learning tools and provide a more enriching experience to students”.
Gaurav Jhunjhnuwala, director, S Chand, said, “S Chand aspires to lead the knowledge ecosystem and support management teams building disruptive technologies in the educational services and content space. Investing in FlipClass is a step in this direction”.
“Even with the advent of online solutions, home tuition and tutors continues to be a huge market with innate problems of discovery and selection. This is where we believe FlipClass will play a significant role by aggregating tutors and parents onto a single platform,” said Karthik Reddy of Blume Venture Advisors.
